KOKOKO! are a Congolese duo at the forefront of Kishasa’s sonic revolution and ‘Bazo Banga’ is yet another fantastic single from them. It’s a groovy track from the moment its opening chants begin, with thick bass and a variety of percussion supporting its build towards a synth-driven instrumental. By the end, the track has truly kicked into gear, with its chaotic sound mirroring the kaleidoscopic video that accompanies it. According to the pair, its title means “‘they are scared’, a chant sung in crowds to let go of frustration. A loopy driving electric bass line carries the heavy electronic rhythm foundation to support the chant.” Their highly anticipated second album, BUTU, drops on July 5th, 2024, via Transgressive Records. -Dan Peeke
